ピアニスト・作曲・音楽芸術博士
ジュリアード音楽大学音楽芸術博士、東京藝術大学名誉教授。皇后陛下雅子様のピアノの師。1962年東京芸術大学を首席で卒業、1967年米国ジュリアード音楽大学大学院に留学、高名なピアノの巨匠サッシャ・ゴロドニツキー教授に7年半にわたり師事。ラフマニノフに直接指導を受けた同教授から最高峰の近代的な演奏法と解釈の神髄を学んだ。1968年同大学バルトークコンテストで優勝。1970年ヴィオッティ国際コンクール第2位。1971年ヨーロッパ演奏旅行。1973年ワシントンとニューヨークでデビューし、いずれも最高の評価を得た。1974年博士学位論文「ロマン派ピアノ音楽の始祖 ジョン・フィールド」及び3回ドクター・リサイタルにより、ジュリアード大学より東洋人として初のDMA(音楽芸術博士)の学位を贈られた。1975年帰国後、放送や協奏曲に出演。数々のリサイタルを行ない、幅広いレパートリーで、いずれも高い評価をかち得ている。大阪音楽大学教授、東京芸術大学教授、聖徳大学教授、愛知県立芸術大学で教鞭をとり、優秀なピアニストを世におくっている。また、ピアノ曲、歌曲など作曲家としても活躍している。ジョン・フィールド、スクリアビン、ラフマニノフ、グラナドス、ファリャのピアノ曲集を編纂校訂し全音楽譜から出版、これらの楽譜はロシア・米国・ヨーロッパの名ピアニストや教授から厚い信頼を得ている。
TAKEJIRO Takatomo HIRAI pianist, DMA (Juilliard)
Takejiro Hirai is the younger son of noted Japanese composer Professor Kozaburo Hirai. He began his musical education at an early age under his father's tutelage, studying piano, composition and conducting, and at the age of ten performed his own composition, “Theme and Variations for Piano”, in a broadcast over NHK, the Japanese national radio network. Following his graduation from Tokyo University of Arts, Takejiro Hirai came to the United States for further study in piano at The Juilliard School with Sascha Gorodnitzki. Here he won the competition to perform Bartok's Third Piano Concerto with the Juilliard Orchestra. He is also winner of the Viotti International Piano Competition of Italy. He made his U.S. debut in Washington D.C. and New York in 1973, which won the highest critic acclaim. He received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano from Juilliard in 1974. His doctoral thesis was entitled “John Field Pioneer of Romantic Piano Music”.
Takejiro Hirai has appeared with orchestras, in recitals and in chamber music concerts in Japan, Europe and the United States. During the years 1967 and 1971 he made extensive tours in Europe. He had been a professor of piano at the Osaka College of Music (1977-1991), Tokyo University of the Arts (Tokyo Geidai, 1991?2007), Seitoku University Faculty of Music (2007- ). He is also known as a composer of piano music, art songs and chamber music. He edited Piano Works by John Field(1984), Scriabin in 5 vols.(1987-90) , and Rachmaninoff (2005- ), published by Zen On Music Co.
